Chevron Houston Marathon fans…

Not even the brisk morning chill could stop people from heading downtown to support their favorite runners in the 2022 Chevron Houston Marathon.

Kenya’s James Ngandu pulled away approaching the finish line Sunday and won the 50th anniversary Chevron Houston Marathon in his career debut at the distance, finishing in 2:11:03.

Houston’s Frank Lara, a 2014 graduate of Strake Jesuit High School who was also running his first-ever marathon, crossed only 29 seconds behind Ngandu in fifth place.

The most stunning result of the morning, however, was Keira D’Amato’s victory in the women’s marathon. The 37-year-old realtor broke both the Houston and the American record with her blistering 2:19:12.

Milkesa Tolosa and Vicoty Chepngeno won the men’s and women’s races respectively in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Sunday morning, running in wind-chill temperatures in the 20s.

From high-fives, to signs, bells and even bagpipes, take a look at the colorful signs of support for this year’s racers.
