Amazon Web Services, which provides cloud computing services for major companies like Disney, Sony and Netflix, suffered a major outage Tuesday morning—and said that there is no time frame as to when service will be repaired.

At 3:30 p.m. EST, Amazon Web Services said the cause of the outage is “an impairment of several network device” and though there are “some signs of recovery, the company “do not have an ETA for full recovery.”

The tracking site DownDetector showed nearly 27,00 reports of Amazon Web Services outages Tuesday around noon.

According to DownDetector, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Prime Music, Amazon Alexa, Ring—which all use AWS—were also experiencing outages, and Roku and Ring warned customers of service interruptions.

Amazon Web Services reported increased error rates in North America on its status dashboard.

Amazon wrote on the dashboard that it identified the cause of the outage and is ”actively working towards recovery.”

In a statement, Richard Rocha, an Amazon spokesperson, told Forbes “the AWS team is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Big Number

48. That’s how many websites were experiencing some form of outages on Tuesday, according to DownDetector.

Key Background

In November, a similar number of websites experienced outages, including Snapchat, Spotify and Google. In October, Facebook experienced multiple outages, including a 5-hour-long one, that included  Instagram, Messenger and other subsidiaries. The issues were estimated to cost the company over $100 million in revenue. Snapchat also experienced an outage in October. AWS also experienced an outage like this in November 2020.
